Individual Counseling

“To be loved but not known is comforting but superficial. To be known and not loved is our greatest fear. But to be fully known and truly loved is, well, a lot like being loved by God.”  ~ Timothy Keller

Individual Counseling for Adults

At Gilmour Counseling Group, we believe in taking a holistic approach to mental health. We specialize in helping people identify and heal their emotional, spiritual, and physical wounds. We help you untangle from the lies you have believed. We help you build up life-giving resources and then begin to dismantle all the unhealthy ways you have learned to survive (but at a cost).

For those seeking faith-based counseling, we do so with God's insight through the word and the Holy Spirit combined with evidence-based interventions such as Interpersonal Neurobiology, Internal Family Systems, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and other trauma-informed approaches.

Individual Counseling for kids

At Gilmour Counseling Group, we believe in taking a holistic approach to mental health. We work closely with you and your child to evaluate their needs and challenges emotionally, mentally, physically, and relationally. We work with you to help identify underlying issues that contribute to the issues they may be having in their behavior, academics, and relationships. We utilize therapy approaches such as Play Therapy, Attachment-based interventions, Family Systems, and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy.

Individual Counseling for teens

At Gilmour Counseling Group, we believe in taking a holistic approach to mental health. We work closely with you and your teen to evaluate their needs and challenges emotionally, mentally, physically, and relationally. We work with you to help identify underlying issues that contribute to the issues they may be having in their behavior, academics, and relationships. With teens, we try to find the right balance of making sure they feel safe in therapy while also including you in the process as they are willing. We utilize therapy approaches such as Attachment-based interventions, Interpersonal Neurobiology, Family Systems, and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy.

how therapy works

  • We offer a free 15-minute consultation to make sure we’re a good fit. This is a chance for you to share a thumbnail sketch of what is going on, share what you are hoping to gain from counseling, and ask any questions you may have.

  • The first session is unique. We have a set of questions that we ask everyone BUT our main goal is to find out why you are coming and what your goals are for counseling. For couples, we will ask you about each of your backgrounds. We ask about your physical and mental health history, family background, job situation, personality differences, how you handle conflict, etc. For family counseling including younger children, we recommend you coming alone for the first session. For teens, we recommend coming together for the first session.

  • At the end of session one or two, we'll identify some goals to work on and the order to tackle each issue. We will continue to evaluate your goals and our progress in meeting them.

  • Each ongoing session, we start with a list of "checking in" questions. For example, "How you been getting along?", "Any insights from our last session? Then we'll identify what you each would like to talk about. At the end of the session, we'll sum up what insights we've learned in our discussion and identify some tools that might help until we meet again.
